Getting Paid By Gumroad

Gumroad enables creators to sell directly to their audience — so that they can make a living doing what they love. Getting paid is simple; you should never have to think about it.

After we have taken our fee from your sales, your net sales will be sent in their entirety to your PayPal or bank account. We pay all the necessary fees to get your money there. If you have $45 in your Gumroad balance, you'll see $45 in your PayPal or bank account.

Every Friday

Gumroad pays its sellers every Friday via Direct Deposit (for creators in the USA, Canada, the UK, and Australia) or PayPal (everyone else). We’re constantly working to strengthen and enhance our payment flow to make it as fast, simple, and secure as possibleFollow the Gumroad blog to be notified when we introduce direct deposit support for other countries.

As long as you have $10 USD in your balance, you will be paid in the next payout cycle. Every payout is for sales made up to the previous Friday.

Payments can take 1-5 days to process, so if you don't see anything in your account on Friday morning, hang in there!

Setting up payouts

All of your payout information can be found and edited by going to your Payout Settings.

If you are based in the United States, Canada, Australia, and the UK, you'll be paid out via direct deposits in your country's currency.

You will need to provide your bank account number and your routing number; if either of those are incomplete or incorrect our attempt to pay you will fail and your funds will be returned to us.

If you are based outside of those countries, your only payout option (for now) is PayPal. If you have a PayPal account please ensure that you have confirmed your account with PayPal or you will not be able to receive the funds we send to that account.

Restrictions and clarifications

There is no way to split payments between yourself and others on Gumroad right now. If you wish to pay out your partners, you have to do it after you are paid by Gumroad.

You do not need a Business PayPal account to be paid by Gumroad. A personal PayPal account is sufficient to receive payouts.

You can set up your payout settings by visiting your settings. You can view when you'll next be paid in your Balance tab. Your balance is listed in USD, not your local currency.

Risk Reviews and Payout Delays

In order to continue working with our banking partners, we have to ensure that we are sending money to legitimate creators who are

  1. Compliant with our terms of service (TOS) and the TOS of our partners
  2. Not financial liabilities - i.e. not racking up chargebacks and suspicious purchases

After you've made your first sales, your account will be reviewed by our Risk team. If your account has not been marked as compliant by our Risk team, you cannot be paid.

If there is a backlog with our Risk team, or your account has not accrued enough sales to be fully investigated, there may be a delay in your payouts. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have in regards to this.

Understanding the Balance page

You can see when your next payout is, fee details, and the respectable (and hopefully sizable) amount you'll be paid over at the Balance Tab.

You can access this anytime while logged into Gumroad by clicking Balance from the dropdown menu under your name in the navigation bar.

On your balance page, you can see how much you've made in the past week, the past 30 days, and since you began selling. Click Total to get a detailed rundown of how much each of your products has contributed to your total profit.

Your upcoming payout date details how much you will be paid, and Gumroad's fees, as well as any taxes you may have to pay, if you have set your sales tax to be calculated. Your total sales and corresponding fees are listed inUS Dollars ($), regardless of the currency that you sell in, so don't be alarmed by any discrepancies if you charge in Australian or Canadian dollars.

The first row of your payout information shows you when you will be paid, and for what period of time this money is coming from.

We then show you how much you made, how much has been deducted from these sales due to refunds, Gumroad's fee, U.S. sales taxes, if you are calculating them, and affiliate sales. In the bottom row, we list your payout destination and how much you are being paid.

Note that if you're being paid via direct deposits in a non-US country, the total payout amount will be shown in non-USD, based on the conversion rate from USD that happens at the time of purchase for credit card transactions and at the time of payout for PayPal transactions.

For more detailed information on your payout period, you can go to your Analytics tab and inspect the sales and associated fees that you made during this pay period. Payout FAQs

Q: Can I be paid via Payoneer?
A: No. In order to be paid via ACH (which Payoneer uses), you need a US-issued Social Security Number so we can verify your identity.

Q: Do I need to have a business account on PayPal to be paid out?
A: Nope! Your run-of-the-mill, meat and potatoes personal PayPal is fine by us.

Q: Will I have to pay PayPal fees on my balance?
A: Gumroad pays all the necessary fees to put money into your PayPal account. Beyond that, you may be charged fees by PayPal for depositing money into your bank account. You can read more about PayPal's withdrawal feeshere.

Q: I've had over $10 in my account for over a week now, why haven't I been paid?
Answer 1: It's possible that your balance went above $10 soon after the cut-off point for the last payout date. You will be paid on the next pay date. You can cross-reference your Balance and Analytics tabs to verify this.

Answer 2:  Before you can be paid by us, your account has to be manually reviewed by our Risk team. It's possible that right now, your account has not yet been reviewed, either because a) you haven't generated enough sales in order for us to properly review your account to see that it is in compliance with our Terms of Service, or b) there is a backlog with our Risk review.

When it has been reviewed, your payouts will begin and you will be paid automatically, every Friday, from here on out.

Q: Can you pay me via Coinbase/Stripe/personal check/precious metals or animal pelts?
A: As flexible as we'd love to be, unfortunately we can only pay out via PayPal, or Direct Deposit if you live in the US, the UK, Canada, or Australia.

Q: I need my money now, can you pay me tomorrow?
A: Sorry, our payout schedule can't be adjusted for individual cases.

Q: It's payday at 3:00 in the afternoon - why haven't I received my money yet?
A: Sometimes PayPal and banking officials can be a little slow when processing money. Rest assured, the money is on its way.

Q: What happens if I enter the wrong payout information?
A: If there is an error in sending funds to you, we will hold your money in your account until the next payout cycle.

Q: I don't live in the United States but my bank is based there, can I be paid by Direct Deposit?
A: Yes! If your bank is based in the USA and you have a Social Security Number you can set up Direct Deposit in your Payout Settings
