How do I import customers to my products?
If you have a mailing list from previous or potential customers, you can import them as customers of a particular product of yours into your Gumroad database, and send them updates through your Customers tab. The customers you import will be able to access these products and their updates for free.
You can also use "importing" to add a list of customers to a product, then send them automated updates through Gumroad's Workflows feature.
An Import(ant) Note on Subscriptions
At the moment, you can not import customers to a subscription or membership product. See below for instructions on how to move customers into a subscription-based product.
One by one
First go to your Customers tab, and click the Import icon (furthest on the left). Choose a product that you would like to assign customers to. If you have only a handful of customers to import, simply add them manually.
Click Import customers manually then enter their email address and click Add. When you've added the customer(s) you want, click Import Customers.
Please note: You can not import customers to a pre-order product that has not been released.
Using the CSV
If you have lots and lots of customers to import to a product, you'll use our CSV function to save time and energy.
On the import dropdown menu, download the template CSV.
Open the CSV, and underneath the header, paste your customers' emails.
Do not edit the header in any way, this will cause the CSV to upload incorrectly.
At the moment, you can not add any additional columns to the CSV, simply the customer's email address and date of purchase.
Save the CSV, and upload it to Gumroad.
To delete an imported customer, simply click on their name in the Customers tab and click "delete" on the window that drops down. If you accidentally delete a customer, you can re-upload your Customer CSV and their name will be restored.
You can not import customers to a pre-order product that has not yet been released. Once the product has been released, you can import them to the product and they will receive all future updates.
To send files to people who are currently on your mailing list, consider inviting them to follow you via your Audience page, then sending them updates manually, with our Updates feature, or automatically with the Workflows feature.
Because a subscription product requires your customer to create a Gumroad account, the process of importing them to your product is a little more involved.
Essentially, you will make them "buy" the product for free. The way you would do that is:
1) Create and publish your product.
2) Create a 100% Off offer code on the product, and limit its usage to the number of customers you wish to import
3) Click Save Changes and then the share link that appears next to the % sign.
4) Click Ctrl+V (Windows) or Command+V (Mac) to paste that offer code into an email to your customers.
5) Now add ?wanted=true to the end of that email address. The URL you are sending your customers will look something like:
When your customers click this link, they will be sent to a screen like this:
All they have to do is fill out the form and they'll be able to see all the updates they're ever sent.
