Does Gumroad Add Sales Tax to Digital Products?

If you live in the U.S.A.

We do not add sales tax to digital products. All we can do is help you calculate and remit sales tax on sales to the states where you have nexus.

What does this mean?

You set a state that you have "nexus" in, in your Settings menu, and when you make sales to that state, we calculate how much you owe the state in sales tax.

Where can I see that information?

You go to your Customers tab and export a CSV. Here's how to do that.

If you live in the E.U.

Don't worry about sales tax.

If your product is sold to a customer in the E.U., Gumroad does charge and remit VAT on digital items sold, because we are technically the people your customers are doing business with.

We do not charge or remit VAT on physical products sold to customers in the E.U. You can learn more about our VAT dealings here.

If you live in Canada

We do not calculate or remit Canadian sales tax, nor are we planning on adding this feature anytime soon. Sorry.

If you live in Australia

We do allow you to charge GST if you've specified the percentage in your 'Settings' menu. However, Gumroad does not automatically remit GST on your behalf. You are responsible to report and pay all GST charges to the ATO (Australian Taxation Office).

If you live in India

You can allow us to charge GST to Indian customers. That money sits in your balance and you are responsible for remitting it to the Indian government.
